Any one can write a computer program , but not any one can write a program logically, put together all components of a computer system for real world implementation. To be a good programmer start by thinking logically. For example if asked to write a program for voting and you are thinking ,if Mr A votes for candidate B , and Mr C votes for candidate D , candidate B and D must both have 1 vote each, but logic will tell you that is not always true. For real world systems design you must think that Mr B and Mr D could as well be voters voting for themselves too, therefore ceteris paribus, each may end up with 2 votes each and not 1. When thinking logically your system will be made up of candidates and Voters where by not all Voters are candidates but all candidates are potential voters.

Understanding variables and their scope is good programming learning. I will make it very simple so you can get it first time. A cooking Pan and a Pot are good examples of Variables. Take for example the procedure for making Pap/Nshima, it takes a Pot, Melie Meal powder, and Water, to make it simple we ignore the cooking stick, fire etc. The Pot is a variable, Melie Meal and water are Parameters. Some programmes require that you declare Variables before using them, so like in this example a Pot was picked and not a Pan therefore by choosing the Pot i am instinctively declaring that i want Melie Meal powder and water to go inside and not fish ( if i wanted to fry fish i would have picked a Pan ). A variable can therefore take different values(quantities) of the same thing(Melie Meal). A variables also has scope. The Melie Meal and water are Parameters supplied to the function, in this case the making of Pap/Nshima.
